Lennar Digital Sylenth1 ~ Oscillators

Sylenth1 features 4 independent Oscillators — two in Part A & two Part B. All of these oscillators are extremely rich in timbre. In my opinion, Sylenth1 produces some of the best sounding saw waveforms around.

If you’re looking to become a master in sound design and synthesis, learning how to properly use these oscillators paired with some of the other knobs and techniques within Sylenth1 will get you 95% of the way there.

This is a beautiful synth to cut your teeth in. I recommend studying the presets and reverse engineering why they sound the way they do.

Oscillators

Voices = Adjust the number of voices the oscillator will produce (0-8 voices in unison)

Waveform = Choose between 8 different analog waveforms

// Choices = Sine, Saw, Triangle, Pulse, Half Pulse, Quarter Pulse, TriSaw & Noise

Octave = Adjust the oscillators pitch by octaves

Note = Adjust the oscillators pitch by notes

Fine = Fine-tune the oscillators pitch positively or negatively between two half notes

Volume = Adjust the amplitude of the oscillator

Phase = Adjust the starting point of the waveform // only functions when retrigger is enabled

Retrigger = Choose whether or not we want each voices waveform to start at the same location

// Activated = Every new MIDI note will reset or “retrigger” each voices waveform (laser sound)

// Deactivated = Each voices waveform runs free regardless of any new MIDI notes

Detune = Adjust the amount of pitch detuning taking place on the individual voices

// Use = This can create super wide beefy sounds, especially awesome with saw waves

Stereo = Adjust how wide or narrow the voices are in relation to each other (if more than 1 voice)

// 0 = Mono Sound

// 10 = Completely spread across the left and right channels (wide sound)

Pan = Pan the oscillator to the left channel or the right channel

Inv = Invert the oscillators output waveform

// Use = When creating PWM sound fx (i.e. 2 saw waves, 1 inverted + phase knob adjustments)

Copy = Copy the current oscillator settings

Paste = Paste the copied oscillator settings to another oscillator

Init = Initialize the current oscillator

Amplitude Envelopes

Amplitude Envelopes = Shape the oscillator sound over time with traditional ADSR controls

Amp Env A = Adjust the envelope for both Oscillators A1 & A2

Amp Env B = Adjust the envelope for both Oscillators B1 & B2

Attack = Adjust the duration of time between silence & the loudest portion of the sound as a MIDI note becomes active

Decay = Duration of time between the loudest portion of the sound and the sustain amplitude

Sustain = Adjust the amplitude the oscillators produce while a MIDI note is held down

Release = Adjust the duration of time between the sustain amplitude and silence

Polyphony & Portamento

Polyphony = Adjust the number of MIDI notes Sylenth1 will accept at one time (if you’re trying to play chords, make sure this is set to a higher number)

Voices = Display the number of active voices depending on how many MIDI notes are active

Solo = Solo either Part A or Part B, depending on what is selected

Sync = Force several timing parameters to sync with the DAWs BPM regardless of their settings

Portamento = Adjust the duration of time it takes to slide from one MIDI note to another

// Use = Bendy melodic lead sounds 

Slide Mode = Sylenth1 will always slide the pitch to the next note played

Normal Mode = Sylenth1 will only slide notes whenever at least one other key is pressed, but not slide when you play a single note at a time.

Mono Legato = Force Sylenth1 to operate in a mono voice fashion & is best used when you want to slide quickly between MIDI notes without actually re pressing the note

Bend Range = Adjust the MIDI bend range if you’re bending the pitch with a MIDI controller

Preset Dissection

Dissect 434 Music Box = Noise Waveform (Part A) + TriSaw & Quarter Pulse Waveform (Part B)

// Part A = Amplitude Envelope A adds a bit of attack

// Part B = Pitch differences
