Lennar Digital Sylenth1 ~ Modulation

Lennar Digital Sylenth1 ~ Modulation

Sylenth1’s Modulation panel allows us to modulate a wide variety of parameters with two modulation envelopes, two LFOs & four additional miscellaneous modulation sources.

Once you’ve chosen your waveforms and sculpted your sound a bit with filtering, adding modulation to a few parameters can really bring your sounds to life. If you’re struggling with sound design in Sylenth1 & your patches are feeling robotic or lifeless, modulation is most likely the antidote.

Modulation Envelopes

Modulation Envelopes 1 & 2 = Modulate parameters with two additional set of ADSR controls

// Use = Modulating specific stages of the sound (i.e. adding movement to a cutoff knob to make the attack of the sound brighter than the sustain)

Destinations = Choose from various Oscillators, Filters & Misc parameters

LFOs 1 & 2 = Modulate parameters with two low frequency oscillators

// Use = Continuously modulating parameters adding movement to what would be static parameter values (i.e. adding slight wiggle to oscillator pitch, phase or pan)

LFO Waveform = Choose from 10 different waveforms

// Choices = Sine, Saw, Ramp, Triangle, Pulse, Half Pulse, Quarter Pulse, TriSaw, Lorenz, Sample & Hold & Random

Rate = Set the speed of the LFO waveform to bpm-synced times

Free = Toggle our LFO Rate to Hz instead bpm-synced times as well as toggle our LFO waveform to run freely instead of retriggering for each new MIDI note

Gain = Adjust the intensity or amplitude of the LFO waveform

Offset = Manipulate the starting point of the LFO waveform

Destinations = Choose from various Oscillators, Filters & Misc parameters

Misc Mod Sources

Misc Mod Sources 1, 2, 3 & 4 = Modulate parameters with our envelopes, LFOs & additional MIDI source information

// Use = Modulating the amplitude of each oscillator with the velocity of incoming MIDI notes creating a more dynamic patch & less robotic sound.

Source = Choose from our other two Mod sources or incoming MIDI information

Destinations = Choose from various Oscillators, Filters & Misc parameters

Preset Dissection

Dissect 375 SFX Helicopter = Mod Env 1& 2 > Cutoff & Pitch AB + LFO 1 & 2 > Cutoff A, Cutoff AB & Phaser Effect Frequency + MIDI Keytrack > Pitch AB

Mod Env 1 & 2= Produces the slight growing and fading part of the sound

LFO 1 & 2 = Produces the main back and forth helicopter sound (wiggling the cutoff & phase effect)

MIDI Keytrack = Producing the variation in pitch depending on higher or lower MIDI notes
