An operation that allows you to manipulate the amplitude of specific frequency ranges of an audio signal.
Equalization or EQ is by far my most used “effect” within my musical productions. It somehow ends up on every channel of audio. It is an essential tool for making your mix sound right. EQ has the power to make sounds that occupy the same frequencies fit together. It’s what prevents your low end from becoming too muddy and what keeps your high end from becoming a mess.
In this video, I walk you through what EQ actually is and give you an in-depth look into using a parametric EQ (Ableton Live's EQ8). I also demonstrate when and where you should be using EQ, by making EQ adjustments to an example mix. Enjoy!
